How a professional test works
RadonStead uses professional continuous radon monitors (CRMs) rather than relying on consumer-grade screening devices for its standard professional service. The monitor is placed in the appropriate lowest lived-in or potentially occupiable level, operated for the required measurement period, and retrieved for QA review and reporting.
Placement
We document location, building conditions, device identification and the applicable measurement setup.
Measurement
Short-term professional measurements commonly run for at least 48 hours when the governing protocol permits.
Reporting
Your report includes the measured average, interpretation, test window and next-step guidance.
Residential pricing
| Service | Price | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard residential CRM test | $205 | Homeowners and routine professional measurement |
| Real-estate / priority CRM test | $225 | Transactions requiring tighter coordination |
| Additional monitor at same property | +$90 | Building layouts or standards requiring more than one device |
| School / commercial / multifamily | Custom quote | Multi-device projects, floor-plan work and institutional reporting |
Travel-zone charges may apply to expansion counties or special routing. Final pricing is confirmed before an appointment is accepted.
Quality controls matter
Professional radon measurement is more than leaving a device in a room. RadonStead's operating model includes device identification, calibration/performance documentation, closed-building-condition instructions, interference/tamper review, record retention and timely Iowa reporting.
Understanding the number
Below 2.0 pCi/L
Lower reading. Radon can vary over time, so periodic retesting still has value.
2.0–3.9 pCi/L
Below the EPA action level, but EPA advises considering radon reduction between 2 and 4 pCi/L.
4.0+ pCi/L
EPA recommends action to reduce radon. Follow-up testing and mitigation decisions depend on the building and applicable protocol.
Who we test for
Homeowners, buyers and sellers, Realtors, home inspectors needing overflow capacity, property managers, public schools, licensed childcare centers, commercial owners, builders and other organizations can all use the same core professional measurement workflow with project-specific reporting.
