Radon Mitigation in North Iowa

Current service model: RadonStead is launching as a measurement-first company. Mitigation installations are offered only after the business has satisfied Iowa's separate mitigation experience, training, exam, credential, insurance and contractor requirements. Until that credential is active, RadonStead provides measurement, education and referral guidance rather than representing itself as an active mitigation installer.
What mitigation does

Lower radon by controlling soil gas.

Most residential mitigation systems use active soil depressurization: a fan continuously draws radon-containing soil gas from beneath the building and exhausts it safely above the structure.

Iowa independence rule

Post-mitigation verification matters.

Iowa rules require qualifying pre- and post-mitigation measurements to be performed by an independent measurement specialist not employed by the same mitigation firm, or by the homeowner/occupant/responsible person. RadonStead's long-term model preserves that independence through reciprocal relationships.

When to act

EPA recommends fixing at 4.0 pCi/L or higher.

Levels below 4.0 pCi/L still carry risk, and EPA advises considering reduction between 2.0 and 4.0 pCi/L.

Residential

Confirm the measurement, understand the building's foundation configuration, then obtain proposals from credentialed mitigation specialists.

Schools

Iowa public schools with results above 4 pCi/L must employ an Iowa credentialed mitigation specialist to develop a mitigation plan within the statutory timeline.

Childcare

Iowa licensed childcare centers must mitigate if required testing identifies levels above 4.0 pCi/L.
