Why Iowa testing matters

A high-radon state deserves a disciplined process.

Radon is invisible and odorless. A professional measurement turns an unknown exposure into a number you can act on.

Testing first — no pressure

Iowa requirements

Know which buildings have mandatory radon obligations.

Iowa does not require radon testing in every real-estate transaction, but public schools, licensed childcare centers and new residential construction have specific requirements.

Public schools

Each attendance center must be tested at least once by July 1, 2027 and at least every five years thereafter. Elevated results trigger specific follow-up and mitigation-planning requirements.

Licensed childcare

Licensed childcare centers must test within one year of opening and mitigate when results exceed 4.0 pCi/L under Iowa HHS rules.

New 1–2 family homes

For construction commenced under the statewide requirement beginning July 1, 2026, passive radon-control methods are required by the Iowa state building code.
